Tommy Vu has had his share of fame over the years. The original infomercial celebrity, Vu expanded his interests to include professional poker at the turn of the millennium. Yesterday was his closest chance to date of winning a bracelet, but in the end he lost out to twenty-eight year old Michael Chu after coming within a card of victory.
- Justin Bonomo enters the final table of event 10 - $2,000 No-limit hold’em with a massive chip lead. Internet phenom Bonomo has over T2,000,000, while no one else is in the seven digits.
- David Oppenheim holds the big chip lead in Event 11 - $5,000 Seven-card stud, but coming up in the rear view mirror is the one and only Phil Ivey. Also at the final table with the short stack is Marco Traniello. It’s his thirteenth cash since the beginning of the 2005, the most of anyone in that time.
- Don’t look now, but JC Tran, perhaps the best tournament player in the world to have not won a WSOP bracelet, leads Event 12 - $1,500 NL Hold’em (6 max). He has a T30,000 chip lead on the field going into the second day of play.
- Alex Kravchenko became the firs Russian resident to win a bracelet at the WSOP. Kravchenko defeated American pro Brian Devonshire to take the honors.
The final hand saw Tommy move all-in with Ks-8s only to be called by Chu’s Ac-3h. The flop brought Tommy hope with 6s-5c-3s, but the fifth spade never came. The Californian Chu was the winner.
