I love it when the Canadians win. It’s been a great year for Canucks, with the likes of Greg “FBT” Mueller, Gavin Smith and Steve Paul-Ambrose making their presence felt at final tables. Yesterday, Jason Warner of Vancouver added his name to the list, securing his first bracelet in his second event.
Here’s a look at what else went on over the day;
- Event 13 - $5,000 pot-limit hold’em, worked its way down to a potentially great final table. Jeff Lisandro has a strong chip lead, but also at the table are Humberto Brenes, Gavin Griffin, Jason Lester and the one and only Allen Cunningham.
- Michael Keiner outlasted an elite table including Barry Greenstein and Greg “Fossilman” Raymer to take home his first bracelet, winning event 14 - $1,500 seven-card stud.
- Almost 2700 players entered event 15 - $1,500 no-limit hold’em. Fabrice Soulier and Rick Fuller are amongst the chip leaders in the massive field after one day of play.
- Event 16, $2,500 HORSE, got under way with a stellar field duking it out. Amongst the top ten in chips heading into day two are Steve Zolotow, Cyndy Violette, Layne Flack, David Williams and Chris Reslock, who is looking for his second bracelet of the series.
Warner’s triumph after a marathon game, considering that the day started with just six players. Six hours after starting, it was down to just him and New Yorker David Zeitlin when Zeitlin moved in his last T600K with Qh-4s. Warner called with Ad-6d. The board came 9c-7h-3s 4h 6s; Warner’s hand held up. Go Canada.
