It’s been a busy day at the 2008 World Series of Poker. In all, five tournaments were running simultaneously leaving tournament reporters exhausted and unfulfilled. That’s because the one tournament that was supposed to finish still hasn’t as I write this. It’s 4:10 AM.
In event #2 - $1,500 no-limit hold’em the world seemed to be cheering for Jesus Ferguson, but the former champion’s 6th bracelet was not meant to be. He was eliminated in third place, leaving James Akenhead and Grant Hinkle to battle it out for the title. They were still playing as this piece was written at the aforementioned time.
Event #3 - $1,500 played down to the final nine. Wednesday, the final table ill play, with Joe Tehan the chip leader. Familiar names heading to that finale include Jacobo Fernandez, Al Barbieri and the super-hot David Singer.
Event #4 - $5,000 mixed hold’em played down to nine also and is looking at a monster final table. Chino Rheem is the chip leader and is joined in order of chips by David Williams, Justin Bonomo, Erick Lindgren, Howard Lederer, Roland de Wolfe, Andrew Robl, Isaac Haxton and Pat Pezzin.
Event #5 – $1,000 no-limit hold’em with rebuys is lead by yesterday;s fifth place finisher, Amit Makhija. Amit is joined near the top by Marco Johnson, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Alex Jacob, Jeff Madsen and John Juanda.
Event #6 - $1,500 Omaha hi/lo ended the first day of play with 205 of 832 surviving. James Van Alstyne is the chip leader, with Scott Clements, new father Rob Mizrachi and Jimmy Fricke also on the leaderboard.
