Wedensday’s day 6 was a big one in World Series of Poker lore as two of the game’s favorite sons, --Erick Lindgren and David Singer—ended their long quests for their first respective bracelets. Singer did so by taking down Jacobo Fernandez to win event #3 – 1,500 pot-limit hold’em. Lindgren had it even tougher.
The final table of event#4 – $5,000 mixed hold’em (which used half-limit, half no-limit) saw a whole lot of sharks without any fish to be found. Isaac Haxton, Pat pezzin, Howard Lederer, David Williams, Chino Rheem and Roland de Wolfe went out in that order leaving Lindgren, Justin Bonomo and Andrew “Good2cu” Roble fighting for the championship. When Robl finally fell, Lindgren went on a heater, steamrolling the 22-year old Bonomo and taking the elusive title.
Lindgren credited his strong limit hold’em play with the victory, noting that once pezzin and Lederer were out, the field was reduced to no limit specialists. He began playing the majority of limit hands to take full advantage and it worked like a charm. Bonomo was dazed and confused heading into the final hand.
Playing limit, the final hand started with Lindgren raising to 80,000. Bonomo called and the flop came 10c-5c-3d, followed by 4h on the turn when both players checked.
Bonomo bet 80,000 and Lindgren called before the river came 8h. Bonomo bet and Lindgren raised, putting Justin all in. He turned over 5s-4s for two pair, but Lindgren had turned the straight with Ah-2d. He finally had his championship and his bracelet.
