Today, the poker world is remembering their friend and mentor Chip Reese. Reese, considered by some the greatest poker player in the world, passed away in his sleep on the morning of December 4th, 2007 at the ego of fifty-seven.
Reese was the anchor of the big game, a charismatic man who could get just about anyone sit down despite Reese’s considerable skill, using his own brand of chip talk to ease them to the table. That charm was equaled by the skill he played the game, He was the youngest player ever inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.
Chip will forever be the first champion of the ‘Players Championship’, the $50K HORSE event at the World Series of Poker. In triumphing over the greatest final table ever assembled, he took his place as rightful bearer of the title. The man who was considered the best held the crown that proved it.
Today’s hand of the day, above, is the final hand from that tournament. It would end up being the final major he won and his first bracelet in 23 years and the last of his career.
Chip will be held permanently amongst the true giants of this game. More than thatm, he will be missed.
