Meng Ji, 24, is a former software developer who joined a startup technology company fresh out of college. Unfortunately, the endless hours of boring tedious programming work left him really despising everything about his job, so much so that he was actually quite relieved when his company went under less than a year within its founding..
Unsure about his career direction at the time, he gathered a small bankroll and decided to try to make a living playing poker. Starting with limit, and then eventually switching to No Limit, he multiplied his initial bankroll 10 times before he proceeded to move up too quickly and lose it all. It wasn’t until long after his initial failure 3 months later that he realized how underfunded his “pro poker career” had been; he had given himself almost no chance to succeed.
Broke and confused, he was reminded by a great saying he remembered as a child “before you can know how to succeed, you must learn how to fail.” He knew he’d be back for more when the time was right. He eventually got a job at a local company doing strategic business analysis. He took a break from playing, although he never quit looking for ways to improve his game.
Eventually when he had saved up a decent sized roll, he started playing again and has done quite well since. These days, you can catch him playing mid-stakes NL cash games at any of the local Los Angeles area cardrooms, plus some out of town Indian Casinos. He also plays online regularly at Bodog.
