Aside from being well known for his trademark look of long hair, dark sunglasses, and a black cowboy hat, Jesus is also known for his mathematical approach at the table. Ferguson's analytical approach to poker is probably a byproduct of his upbringing. Both of his parents have doctorates in mathematics and his father is a professor of game theory at UCLA. In 1999 Chris earned his Ph.D. in computer science with an emphasis on artificial intelligence from UCLA, and soon afterwards turned his focus to poker.
In the 2000 World Series of Poker Chris won the $2,500 Seven Card Stud event and then caped off the year by winning the $10,000 buy in Main Event. The following year he won the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo Split event and in 2003 he won a pair of bracelets in $2,000 buy in events. Over the course of four years Chris has won 5 bracelets and over two million dollars. Despite all of his responsibilities with the launch of FullTiltPoker.com in 2004, a site he helped design, Jesus has kept active on the tournament circuit during the past two years. Jesus won two $10,000 WSOP Circuit event in 2005 and finished 2nd in the NBC Heads Up Championship in 2005 and 2006.
Don't let Jesus' stoic look and cold mathematical approach to the game fool you into thinking that all he cares about is pot odds and winning tournaments. Many fans comment on how approachable he is when they are requesting an autograph or need some advice on a hand. Ferguson is also a fan favorite because of his many interests away from the table. He enjoys ballroom dancing and is the president of a UCLA swing dance club. Chris is also very well known for his many card tricks, one of which is his ability to throw a playing card through carrots and bananas.
So what are his plans for the future? Well, in a recent interview he said, "Poker is just a sideline with me, and I play it more for the challenge than the money." Jesus went on to say that he could see himself working on Wall Street in a couple of years, and would like to continue his work with artificial intelligence.
