Bio

"He may be one of the all-time greats. Maybe the greatest ever." That's high praise for Daniel Negreanu especially considering its source, poker legend Doyle Brunson. If Negreanu wants to be the best ever, he's already off to a great start. He's won more money, more tournaments, and more awards than almost anyone else over the last 10 years. At only 32 years of age, Kid Poker is poised to become the next generation's Texas Dolly.

As a young child Daniel's parents encouraged him and his brother to always follow their dreams. Little did they know that this would lead their son to cultivate his gift for betting on sports and hustling pool while he was still in high school. Negreanu's focus soon switched to poker where he says his ability to read his opponents was passed down to him from his father. As Negreanu continued to build his bankroll he became less interested in his studies and eventually dropped out of high school to pursue his poker career.

When he turned 21, Daniel moved to Vegas to pursue tougher competition and the bigger paydays that come with it. After a couple of early setbacks Negreanu started to become a consistent winner and in 1998 he won his first WSOP bracelet. At the age of 23 Kid Poker was the youngest player to ever win a WSOP event. Over the next 5 years Daniel continued to do well on the tournament circuit and was also becoming a respected high stakes cash game player. Then in 2004 he had a break out year winning 2 World Poker Tour events, a WSOP Bracelet, over 4.4 million in tournament prize money, and numerous awards.

As if he wasn't busy enough winning millions of dollars in tournament play, Daniel has become active in all aspects of the recent poker boom. He has penned over 100 articles for card player magazines and updates his personal blog on an almost daily basis. He was a contributing author to Doyle Brunson's Super System 2 and is currently in the works to produce his own poker strategy book. Daniel has his own online card room, www.fullcontactpoker.com, as well as a video game staring him and other top poker pros. To really show how much his stock has risen in and out of the poker world; In March of this year Pepsi featured Negreanu in a Diet Pepsi commercial. In the commercial Daniel received top billing over Phil Hellmuth and Scotty Nguyen, but ultimately ended up loose to the Diet Pepsi Can in heads up play.

While he may be known as Kid Poker and still loves to play video games, Daniel has shown great growth in his maturity over the past several years. His bankroll is more stable than it's ever been and he is avoiding many of the monetary pitfalls that seem to plague other top pros. In August 2005 Daniel tied the knot and now lives in Las Vegas with his wife Lori and their dog Mushu.

Amusing anecdote: In the summer of 2004, Daniel and I were the two leaders in the Player of the Year race. He asked me how hard I was going to try to win. I told him I wouldn't play many small events, but I was hoping to leave myself close enough so that if I won the final event of the year, I would become Player of the Year in heroic fashion. Daniel found himself in second place going into the final event of the year. He did exactly what I was hoping to do: he won, dominating the field and making it look easy.
