BIO

The world of poker first took notice of “The Kid”, 21-year-old Jeff Madsen at the 2006 WSOP when he made the Omaha High-Low 8/OB final table, placing 3rd and pocketing a cool $97k paycheck. Not bad for a Film Studies major at UCSB who borrowed money out of his college fund to play a few WSOP events. Eleven days later his journey to poker fortune and fame skyrocketed when he became the youngest player in history to win a WSOP bracelet in the $2,000 NL Event.

Soon everyone was talking about the poker playing “Kid” who had just turned 21 less than a month before. However, with the increased media attention and Internet poker boom attracting hoards of 20-somethings hoping to hit it big and get lucky at the ’06 WSOP inquiring minds wondered if Jeff was just a one-hit-wonder. What they didn’t know was that he had been diligently preparing for the last three years, reading books, studying strategy, watching any and every poker TV show (to the point of memorization) and playing in the local Indian Casino, thanks to the 18+ age limit. Six days after his first bracelet win he silenced the skeptics when he took home his second bracelet in the $5,000 NL Short Handed Event. He had already made history now he was solidifying his place in the professional poker world. Just for fun he topped off his amazing run by appearing at a fourth final table in the Seven Card Stud High-Low Event placing 3rd and putting his total WSOP earnings above 1.4 million dollars. Needless to say, Jeff quickly caught the attention of several .. poker websites and was scooped up by the Full Tilt team, joining the likes of Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, Allen Cunningham and Phil Gordon.

Unlike most people after such a success and a million dollar month Jeff opted to go back and finish his senior year at the University of Santa Barbara where he got his start playing poker at the nearby Chumash Casino. He returned to the typical college life with frat parties and homework assignments accept now his extra-curricular activities included TV appearances, VIP events, trips to Vegas, Borgata, and Australia, schmoozing with celebrities, and all-nighter matches in Full Tilt’s High Stakes rooms with Mike Matusow and Gus Hansen.

Jeff is settling into the lifestyle and travel schedule of a poker pro. His humble and easy-going personality has made him a favorite in the poker community, of course being willing to bet a few thousand dollars on a match of Chinese Poker or Roshambo doesn’t hurt when it comes to fitting in with the pros. He just bought a house in Las Vegas and eagerly awaits the 2007 WSOP. Outside of poker Jeff, like his nickname implies is just a regular “Kid” juggling an extraordinary life. He likes Hip-Hop music, watching Family Guy, skateboarding, hanging out with friends and, of course playing poker!
