Having a beautiful exotic woman sit down beside you at the poker table might sound like a dream come true to many men. That fantasy could quickly turn into a financial nightmare for your bankroll if that woman is the “Poker-Diva”, Liz Lieu. This perfect combination of brains and beauty is often underestimated by her male counterparts who still view poker as a man’s game. Lieu has no problem using this misconception to her advantage, as her aggressive playing style and ability to make well-timed bluffs, often catching her opponents off guard.
Liz first started playing poker when she was 18 and living in Colorado. She helped her friends organize a regular home game and would often handle the dealing duties. Liz soon figured out that she had an affinity for the game and moved on to dealing in Las Vegas casino. Dealing at a casino allowed Liz to learn about the world of professional poker, and in 2001 she became a full time cash game pro. Liz worked her bankroll up to where she could often be found playing at the $400 - $800 level Hold’em games in Vegas and Los Angeles.
Four years later, at the urging of her good friend John Pham, Liz entered her first WSOP event, the 2005 $1,500 No Limit Hold’em tournament. Lieu finished in fifth place and won over one hundred and fifty thousand dollars in that tournament. She went on to finished in the money in two more WSOP events, and five other major tournaments that year. Since that time, Liz has continued to play on the tournament circuit even though her seductive look has lead to many opportunities away from the poker table.
Liz has recently teamed up with Martin De Knijff to help promote MartinsPoker.com where she likes to play $200 - $400 limit Hold’em. Liz can also be found online at her personal website LizLieu.net, or you can find her blog at www.myspace.com/lizlieu. All of the recent marketing opportunities have not caused Liz to loose touch or forget about her friends and family. When Lieu originally became a poker pro it was to help support and care for her parents. Lieu’s kindness is not limited to her family as she showed when she won the 2005 Commerce Casino $1k event and then donated a large portion of her winnings to Multiple Sclerosis research.
In several interviews, Liz has said that she doesn’t want to play poker forever, and would some day like to walk away from the green felt to become a housewife. With all the characteristics attributed to Lieu, beautiful, sexy, smart, caring, and successful, chances are good that she won’t have any problems finding a suitor.

Although Liz is a competent winning poker player, she has been focusing on marketing herself more than she has on playing poker. Her poker results have slipped, but she will probably make more money this way in the long run. She has cultivated a persona that she has trouble keeping up with, since in reality she would prefer to be a private person who is out of the limelight.
