When Ming moved to Las Vegas in 1986, he had to take two jobs to survive. One at a Chinese restaurant and one as a poker dealer. Ly began to play poker but never really made any money at it. He played for five years before he finally stated to bring home any profits.
He began to play high stakes games with the likes of Doyle Brunson. It was there that Minh got the advice he really needed: "enter more tournaments" said Doyle.
Ly has won money at many tournaments since, and is well regarded for his high stakes playing ability.
Minh was knocked out in 19th place at the 2005 WSOP Main Event, which he blamed on the disrespectful antics displayed by Mike Matusow. After Mike was knocked out in 9th place, Minh challenged him to a poker dual.
Minh won the 2005 World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship, which made the world stop and take a look at this amazing poker star.
