Sam was born in Beirut, Lebanon, where he demonstrated skills with all types of games of chance. Like most of us he played Pac-Man, pool and pinball. The only difference is he made money at all three. He once played a single game of Pac-Man for $5,000. He was also on the cover of a Lebanese magazine for winning a big pinball touney. Sam didn't know he was paving to the road to carreer in the gambling industy. Sam then moved to the United States in 1977 where he attended the University of Kansas, graduating with a degree in Business Administration. After he moved to Texas, he found that playing poker with his friends for fifty cents a hand was more interesting than working. He began playing with his friends more and more, each time raising the stakes. His first trip to Las Vegas, he turned $2,000 to $7,000 and began to realize he wanted to make his future in the poker world.
In 1996 Sam Farha won the Pot-Limit Omaha Championship at the World Series of Poker and came in second in 2002. Last May, Sam took another second place at the WSOP's No Limit Texas Hold 'Em Championship for a very large payout. He has helped change the game of poker with his high level of aggression and ability to mix up his game intimidating his opponents along the way. It is well known that if Sam sits down at your table....it's time to switch tables.

Amusing anecdote : Eight hands before the end of Day 2 in 2003, I drew out on Sammy and he got up from the table. He thought he was busted, but he had 5,000 more than I had(80,000 was average at that point.) He said, “I’m leaving. I can’t do anything with 5,000.” I said, “Sammy, sit down and take a shot.” Sammy went all-in in the dark on the next two hands and doubled up each time. Of the last eight hands played at our table that night, Sammy was all-in before the flop on seven of them. He ended the second day with 58,000. Of course, Sammy went on to become famous as he cashed out $1.3 million for his second place finish in the event
