When you first see Ted Forrest you might mistake him for a real-estate agent, copier sales person, or just some laid back guy with a mild mannered job. In fact Ted is one of the most successful high stakes poker players in the world. Ted is well respected by his peers because of his aggressive style and his uncanny ability to read his opponents. He is a regular in the highest cash games in Vegas and California and has several major poker tournament wins.
Ted wasn’t always a feared cash game player who was comfortable with $30,000 / $60,000 blinds. He originally came to Vegas with a bankroll of only $100 and started as a prop player for the Palace Station. Playing $1 - $3 stud he quickly was down to only $33 before he finally started to go on a winning streak. Ted then took a job as a dealer and used his time to improve on his ability to read his opponents. "I didn’t waste my time in the box. I studied the players and tried to improve. I was amazed, especially in Hold'em, at the frequency with which I could figure out a player’s exact hole cards." Forrest quit dealing to attend college, but returned to poker before the end of his final semester.
Ted’s ability to read his opponents has led many to label him as a maniac at the table. Often times he will play any two cards just because he knows he has the ability to outplay his opponents. In poker circles Ted may be as well known for his brilliant high stakes play as he is for his love of proposition bets. Here is a listing of some of the prop bets that Ted has taken as provided by Barry Greenstein.
| Bet | Against | Result |
Had to run a marathon in under six hours on the outdoor heat-radiating, rubber-urethane track at UNLV, at temperatures almost 120 degrees. |
Mike Svobodny |
Won $7,000, but suffered serious heat exhaustion. |
Bet that Howard Lederer, starting at 310 lbs., wouldn’t weigh less than Huck Seed, initially at 180 lbs., in less than a year. |
Howard & Huck |
Won $50,000. |
Had to bench press 225 lbs. fifty times in 24 hours. |
David Oppenheim |
Lost $10,000 and permanently injured his right arm. |
Laid 6 to 1 that Mark Weisman, 43 years old, 5’5” tall, and 230 lbs., couldn’t run a mile in under six minutes, with 18 months to train. |
Mark Weisman |
Lost $60,000 |
Bet that Huck Seed’s brother Lief couldn’t run the 280 miles from L.A. to Las Vegas, only sleeping twice. |
John Hennigan |
Won $10,000 because Lief hurt his Achilles’ tendon after 70 miles. |
Aside from playing in the highest limit cash games in Vegas, Forrest can also be found playing online at FullTiltPoker.com or GSN’s High Stakes Poker. Ted is starting to become a familiar face at World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour final tables. He was the winner of the 2006 National Heads-up Poker Championship.

Amusing anecdote: Most people consider him to be a stud specialist, but he did win a WSOP bracelet in no-limit hold’em against a field of over 800 players. Ted is a very tricky player and is known for making great reads. If you want to know how it feels to be in the eye of a hurricane, play short-handed seven-card stud eight-or-better with Ted.
