I entered a local 10k starting chip tourney again this last weekend. I was looking to show what I was really made of after not winning a hand the week before.
There were 30 entrants scattered on 4 tables, meaning I had seven people at my table. I LOVED my table. I met my first goal of winning a hand when I actually received a walk in my big blind. I never would

We just finished for the day. Unfortunately, the highlight of my twelve hours was a conversation with Captain Tom Franklin, but everythign was off the record so I won’t be publishing any details any time soon. Still nice to know a man’s side of things.
Tomorrow, I have a lunch set up with Linda johnson and Jan Fisher and then drinks with Mike Sexton. Should be a blast. I’m really looking forward to getting to know three of the people who helped poker get its move on a little better. Now, I’m off to some dinner and then to get a few hands in before crashing out. Night,

Here is part two of my adventures in downtown Memphis while taking a break from the tournament coverage at the World Poker Open in Tunica.
After an awesome dinner at the famous Rendezvous barbeque joint our group went down to Alfred

Last weekend I entered a 10k format tournament. Players start with 10k in chips with blinds at 25/50 and can re-buy once and add-on once. Some people who know me myself and would consider this a good format for my style. Well, prepare to laugh. In two hours of play, I did not win even ONE hand. I split one pot when I checked it down in the big blind with the small blind with our 9 highs.
One may ask,

Day three at the World Poker Open was a short one. We played down to 27 players in just two and a half hours and the remaining players decided to continue down to 18. Even with the extra eliminations the day finished early and a night in Memphis was on the agenda. I jumped into a van with Gary and some of our other media cohorts and we headed into town. Our group arrived at Charles Vergo

It’s 11 PM here at the end of another long day and I still have three pieces to write, so this isn’t going to go too long. I just wanted to point out the newest addition to the site:
We have forums now.
That’s right, now you, the reader can become the writer. I want all of your venom, you angst, your anger. Sound off on the issues facing our community from legislation to cheating to Jamie Gold’s court case to how you should play kings vs an ace on the flop. If you’ve ever wanted to be heard, now is your chance. Sign up and the world can be yours. Who knows: if you impress us, we may recruit you for bigger things.
Speaking of Jamie, he’s looking like a major storyline here at Borgata as he’s built his first big stack since the World Series. Tomorrow, I’ll take a closer look at the major storylines of the event. See you then,
Gary Wise

As I walk back to the hotel elevators from the Borgata Poker Room a sweet smell that reminds me of spring flowers blooming fills my nostrils, despite the fact that this is the eve before the WPT Winter Poker Open. It is definitely winter here in Atlantic City, and there are definitely no flowers blooming. snow is falling outside on this winter night and the ocean wind is blowing the soft powdery drifts just beyond the opulent entrance of the casino. This is my introduction to the Wise Hand Poker Tournament Coverage Team

During the coverage tonight, after ninety-three hands with no eliminations, the Internet at the tournament site crashed just as the players started dropping like flies. I was the only member of the live updates team with internet access, so i needed to get up anything I could.
I want to thank Mike Schwartz and cardplayer.com, whose coverage provided the information I needed while the rest of our team was offline. There’s a lot of politics in the poker world and sometimes those politics leave Card Player and I on opposite sides of the line, but every person I’ve worked with from their team has been nothing but quality and I consider them all friends. If not for Mike’s efforts tonight, we would have been fooooked. Thanks guys, and if anyone has any questions they need answered, ask Mike.
