During March Maddness this year, I got a survey call from the Borgata asking my opinion about their poker room. The call lead me to believe that they were planning some major updates to the poker room. I got really excited about this for two reasons. 1: I love the borgata and it's usually my first place to play when I'm in AC. 2: My bracket just got destroyed in the early games and I needed something to feel good about.
About a month ago I got three separated mailings from the Borgata informing me that the new and improved (such a stupidly incorrect phrase) would be opening at the beginning of July. The new poker room would host 85 tables with a adjacent parking area just for the poker players. There would also be a series of tournaments to honor the opening.
I thought the Borgata's timing was a little odd. Why hold a series of poker tournaments at the same time the World Series of Poker is going on? I'm sure there are many marketing and logistical reasons behind the schedule but it didn't make any sense to me. Still I'm sure that most of the east coast poker players and enthusiasts who couldn't make it to Vegas would probably love to hit up Atlantic City's best casino for some poker action. Then I went to yahoo news and saw this
That's gotta suck. Not just for the degenerate gamblers and cocktail waitresses, but also for the state of New Jersey. It's estimated that NJ makes about 2 mil per day off of the casinos. If they are having problems getting the budget under control now, imagine how much this will hurt. I still plan on hitting up the Borgata within the next couple of weeks, just as long as the casino is actually open. Hey maybe I could just go down and soak up some sun on the beautiful Atlantic City beach. HAHAHAHHAHA.
