The World Poker Tour lived up to its name, traveling to Europe for the first time at the Aviation Club in Paris on February 12th-15th 2003. The buy in was 10,000 Euros ($10,799 US) and attracted 86 players from around the world.
In this tournament we were introduced to poker pro Allen Cunningham and the boisterous Tony G. Much of the focus was lost on the play at the final table, and re-centered on the Australian until he went out in 5th place.
Cunningham was eliminated in third place, setting up Christer Johansson and Claude Cohen to battle for the championship heads up. A classic race situation developed when Cohen moved all in with Ace-King. Johansson called with pocket sevens. Cohen failed to improve, then went out on the next hand. Johansson took home the title and the 500,000 Euro ($566,948 US) payday.
