Limit Hold’em was featured for the first time at this World Poker Tour event that took place as players sailed on a cruise liner fighting for their share of the $1 million dollar prize pool. 177 players entered the tournament, many winning their way through online satellites, others offering up the full $5.300 buy-in.
The final table consisted of Howard Lederer, Maureen Feduniak, Tim Lark, Dan Coupal, Joe Simkins and Chip Jett. In a format that many new poker fans had not been exposed to yet, players bet and raised fixed amounts chipping away at their opponents.
Two of the more seasoned pros, Lederer and Jett, were the last two remaining and fought a great heads-up battle. Lederer came out on top when he flopped two pair over the top pair of Kings that Jett held. This was Lederer’s second World Poker Tour title of the season, catapulting him past Gus Hanson in the WPT player of the year race.
