The Gold Strike Hotel and Casino played host to the first World Poker Tour event of 2003. 160 players entered this $10,000 buy-in event held January 28th – 31st in Tunica, Mississippi.
Phil Ivey was back for his second consecutive World Poker Tour final table along with Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott, Johnny Donaldson, Buddy Williams, Jeremy Tinsley and Tommy Grimes.
In a heads up battle between the two seasoned pros, Ivey and Ulliot only battled for a few hands before Ulliot check raised Ivey with an open ended strait draw. Ivey called with top pair, but was defeated when Ulliot caught his straight on the turn. Devilfish collected $589,990 and his first World Poker Tour title.
