Borgata Poker Open - Season 2 - Sep 22, 2003
The World Poker Tour came to the Borgata in Atlantic City
for the first time on September 20-22 2003. The newly opened
casino played host to David Oppenhiem, Noli Francisco, Mickey
Seagle, Randy Burger, Charlie Shoten and Juan Carlos Mortensen
after defeating 228 other players.
Randy Burger, who has made it to this event through a $12
satellite was eliminated in 6th place by Carlos Mortensen
after he hit a three-outer on the river. A short stacked Mickey
Segal followed him in 5th, with Carlos Mortensen out close
behind after he lost a race to Noli Francisco.
Francisco won another race after he called the all-in bet
of David Oppenheim. He held Ace-Queen against Oppenheim’s
pocket 5’s and hit queens on the flop and river. The
heads up match between Noli Francisco and Charlie Shoten began
with some confusion after both players made unclear bets and
raises in several consecutive hands. Francisco eventually
took it down, winning by calling the all-in of Shoten after
catching a pair of Kings on the turn. Noli became the first
WPT Borgata Poker Open winner, collecting the $470,000 first
prize.
