LA Poker Classic - Season 2 - Feb 24, 2004
The World Poker Tour returned to Los Angeles in season 2
finding that the LA Poker Classic was quickly becoming one
of the more popular stops on the tour. 382 players entered
the $9,900 buy in event creating a prize pool of almost $3.8
million dollars.
The final table was full of familiar faces including Bill
Gazes, “Vinny” Vinh, David Benyamine, Antonio
“The Magician” Esfandiari, Adam Schoenfeld and
the lone amateur Mike Keohan.
Esfandiari certainly worked his magic at this final table
with some great play showing great reads throughout the final
table. Esfandiari went to work on Vinh when they went to heads
up action almost even in chips. After the Magician took the
chip lead, Vinh tried making a move on Esfandiari by going
all-in with Queen-4. Esfandiari called and showed pocket Aces.
The aces held up and Esfandiari became the newest World Poker
Tour Champion. First prize paid out $1,399,135 as well as
the $25,000 WPT Championship seat.
