World Poker Open - Season 2 - Jan 29, 2004
Home of the riverboat gamblers, the World Poker Tour stopped
on the shores of the Mississippi for the $10,000 buy-in World
Poker Open. Held at both the Gold Strike Casino and Binion’s
Horseshoe Casino, 367 players competed for the $3,455,050
prize pool, the largest to date at the WPT.
Poker legends and regulars at the famed “Big Game”
in Las Vegas, Chip Reese and Barry Greenstein came into the
final table as favorites to take down the tournament. They
were joined by a serious group of competitors, consisting
of James Tippin, Tony Hartman, C.K Hua and Randy Jensen.
Barry Greenstein and his A-K of diamonds eliminated both
Chip Reese and James Tippin on the same hand when an ace hit
on the flop. This left only pro Randy Jensen to fight Greenstein
for the title. Greenstein came into the match with the chip
lead after his double elimination, but Jensen fought to even
after a few hands. After proudly showing Greenstein two separate
bluffs, Jensen moved all-in for the last time with middle
pair after the flop. Greenstein called with top pair, queen
kicker to take down the first prize of over $1.278 million
dollars and his first World Poker Tour title. As always, Greenstein
pledged to give 100% of his winnings to charity.
