Legends of Poker - Season 5 - Aug 30, 2006
Season five’s Legends of Poker tournament at the Bicycle
Casino in Bell Gardens, CA lived up to its name, attracting
458 of the world’s greatest poker players for its $10,000
buy-in no-limit hold’em event. The likes of Scotty Nguyen and Hoyt Corkins at the final table provided the star power,
while up-and-comer Joe Pelton showcased the talent of the
future.
Wielding a short stack for much of the tournament, Pelton’s
persistence paid off as he would go on to defeat poker pro
Frankie O’Dell in a heads-up match earning him over
$1.6 million in prize money.
Scotty Nguyen’s run at another World Poker Tour title
ended when he got all of his chips in with pocket aces on
a flop of Q-8-2, against O’Dell’s pocket jacks.
A runner-runner straight for O’Dell sent Scotty to the
rail in 6th place.
Kevin O’Donnell and Randy Holland, both relative newcomers
to the World Poker Tour scene, took 4th and 5th respectively.
