World Poker Finals - Season 5 - Nov 16, 2006
For the fifth consecutive year, since the World Poker Tour’s
conception in February 2002, Foxwoods Resort & Casino
in Mashantucket, CT played host to the World Poker Finals,
a tournament that has become many players’ favorite
stop on the tour.
609 players paid the $10,000 buy-in, but only one would take
home the $1,717,194 first prize, and it was Nenad Medic who
emerged victorious, besting relative amateur E.G. Harvin in
a heads-up battle for the title. Medic, one of the top cash
game players in the game today, had only reached one televised
final table prior to his World Poker Finals victory.
A pair of women, skilled tournament professionals Mimi Tran
and Kathy Liebert made poker history at this event by becoming
the first women to make the same final table at any World
Poker Tour sponsored tournament. The pair finished 3rd and
5th respectively.
Rounding out the field were Michael Ovelchuk and Michael
Perry, both making their first televised World Poker Tour
final appearances.
