World Poker Tour Canadian Open - Season 5 -
Oct 30, 2006
An event designed to give recreational poker players the
chance to play on a big stage, the World Poker Tour’s
Canadian Open lowered the stakes and opened its arms to all
comers for this brand new event held at the Fallsview Casino
Resort in Ontario, Canada. The $2,500 buy-in Canadian Open’s
final table was set just one day before the bid daddy came
to town; the North American Poker Championship, also hosted
by Fallsview, touting a $10,000 buy-in.
The tournament attracted 298 players, many utilizing the
event as a warm-up for the bigger buy-in contest that would
follow. Jason “Big Bird” Sagle, who finished 12th
in the Canadian Open, good for $9,367 CAD, would go on to
collect 2nd place prize money just a few days later in the
$10,000 event, scoring a $676,107 payday.
American Scott Clements owned the day, turning his $2,700
investment into just over $250,000 CAD and claiming the title.
Joining him at the final table were Tony O’Hagan, Vince
Sessa, Terris Preston, Steven Buttery and Gia Trinh.
