Poker Quiz - August 16, 2007

The Poker Quiz

You are playing in an online six handed No-limit game. The player under the gun doubles the blind. You are dealt K Q and re-raise to six times the big blind. Action folds back to the original raiser and he makes the call.

The flop comes KhQ h7, giving you top two pair. The player under the gun immediately leads out with a quick pot sized bet. What do you do?

The Solution

Raise.

This would be a horrible time to slow play and you need to put in a raise 2.5-3 times your opponents flop bet. It is unlikely that he has Aces, Kings or Queens, as most would have put a third raise out pre-flop. He has a wide range of hands that he could call you with; A-K, A-Q, K-J or J-10. You are beating all those hands and have to raise for value. The only hand that you think could be beating you is pocket sevens, but a flop bet that strong does not look like a set.
