Poker Quiz - June 14, 2007

The Poker Quiz

You are in late stages of a multi-table tournament where prize money is awarded to the top five players. There are only 2 tables left. You have six players at your table and in a small blind you are dealt A 9. The blinds are $100-$200 and a late player raises all-in with his $600 chips stack. You’ve got $6000 in chips compared to the big blind’s $3200.

The Solution

Raise to around $1200.

Since you most likely have the best hand here by raising to around $1200 in chips should make the player in a big blind to fold, unless he picked up a good hand. In this situation he should only call if he picked up at least a pair that is higher than 6-6 or two face cards. He should be folding anything else. But if he calls or raises you here or on the flop you can still get away from the hand.

Hope that the big blind folds and that you will have the all-in player against the ropes.
